Concussion Education Sessions

All student athletes and their parents or guardians will be required to attend a concussion education session provided by their respective middle and high schools. Attendance at one of these sessions is required before a student will be allowed to try out for any sport. Participation in the concussion education session is mandated by state law (Virginia Code 22.1-271.5). A concussion is a brain injury that is characterized by an onset of impairment of cognitive and/or physical functioning, and is caused by a blow to the head, face, or neck, or to the body that causes a sudden jarring of the head (e.g., a helmet to the head, being knocked to the ground). A concussion can occur with or without loss of consciousness.

Prince William County Public Schools supports the need to ensure that its staff, students, and the community are aware of the seriousness of brain injuries and concussions and how they can affect the student’s abilities in the educational setting. In April 2011, the Prince William County School Board adopted a concussion policy that meets the Virginia Code. The law requires parents and students to sign a form attesting that they received training prior to any level of student participation in athletics.

Sessions will be held on Sept. 7, Nov. 2, Jan. 10, and March 13.  We will begin promptly at 6:30 and please bring a pen.

MARSTELLERMIDDLE SCHOOL
WRESTLING

Welcome to Marsteller Wrestling, we are looking forward to a great year. This year the team will be coached by Coach Kibler and Coach Lang. This letter contains our rules and expectations for the wrestling season. Please review this with your child and sign it and have your child return it to Coach Kibler.

Expectations:
  1. You are a STUDENT-athlete, so grades and conduct during school are of the utmost importance.
  2. ALL WRESTLERS NEED TO SHOWER AS SOON AS THEY GET HOME AND SHOULD WEAR CLEAN PRACTICE ATTIRE EACH DAY; THIS IS PER COUNTYPOLICY TO PREVENT SKIN DISEASES.
  3. Wrestlers will be ready for practice proper shoes and attire, no PE uniforms are to be used.
  4. As a student-athlete, you need to manage your time between school and athletics. Athletics are not an excuse to not do work.
  5. Wrestlers should be picked-up before 5p.m. or makes accommodations to ride the activity bus or carpool.
6. Parents and Wrestlers are encouraged to join the Wrestling group on School Fusion. This will help us to update changes in the schedule and pass along team information.
Rules:
  1. Must be on time to practice. Must be ready to practice. Practice is from 2:45-4:45
  2. If you have 3 unexcused missed practices, you will be dismissed from the team. Detentions, OSS, or just going home and not informing the coaches as to why are unexcused.
  3. MEET DAY DRESS CODE; DRESS PANTS, POLO SHIRT (TUCKED IN), and Dress Shoes. ABSOLUTELY NO JEANS OR TEE SHIRTS. SHIRT & TIE PREFERRED

We are only going to be able to keep about 40 wrestlers. It would not be fair to have kids come out and never receive a match whether it is exhibition or varsity. Again thank you and if you have any questions you can e-mail, Coach Kibler or Coach Lang at Marsteller.
